A major expansion of supervised training pathways for provisional psychologists has been announced, with CatholicCare Victoria confirming 350 additional funded scholarships for the 5+1 internship program across 2026 to 2029, now available nationally.
The initiative forms part of the Australian Government funded Addressing Critical Psychology Shortages – Supporting Provisional Psychologists to Practice program and reflects a continued commitment to strengthening Australia’s psychology workforce by expanding access to structured, high-quality supervised training pathways at scale.
Since its establishment in 2024, the partnership between CatholicCare Victoria and Provisional Psychologist Hub has supported more than 120 scholarship participants, with consistently strong completion outcomes across the 5+1 internship pathway.
Originally designed for 98 places delivered between 2024 and 2027, the CatholicCare Victoria Supervision Scholarship program expanded by a further 28 places in response to strong demand and demonstrated success, with all additional places filled in record time. To date, 40% of scholarship candidates have successfully completed the program, directly contributing to workforce capacity across the sector.
