The National Psychology Exam
Every pathway to general registration includes the national psychology exam. This exam is just one tool that the Board uses to assess the minimum required level of applied professional knowledge of psychology. You begin to prepare for this exam when you commence your studies in psychology and continue to prepare as you enter your internship or placement/s.
The national psychology exam ensures that there is a consistent measure used to assess competency. It is a measure of protection to the public and upholds the professional standard of psychologists nationally.
How to Prepare
All those undertaking the exam should start by reviewing the National Psychology Exam candidate manual for tips on how to prepare.
Read the exam curriculum, the recommended reading list and other resources that support candidates to prepare for the exam. There are a range of sample questions and a practice exam you can undertake.
Book time with your principal supervisor, discuss the exam and develop a plan to help you manage your time effectively to prepare.
Your plan could include professional development revision, individual and group supervision, secondary supervision in areas your principal does not have experience together with the resources provided by the Psychology Board of Australia.
