Provisional Psychologist Hub is proud to announce approval to deliver the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship, a nationally funded supervision scholarship program supporting provisional psychologists undertaking the 5+1 internship pathway across Australia between 2026 and 2029.

Through the Australian Government funded Addressing Critical Psychology Shortages – Supporting Provisional Psychologists to Practice initiative, Provisional Psychologist Hub will deliver the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship, designed to strengthen workforce capacity, improve internship completion outcomes, and expand access to psychological services nationally.

Since 2018, Provisional Psychologist Hub has supported almost 4,000 supervisees across all stages of psychological practice, including provisional, registrar, and endorsed pathways, and is a Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) approved masterclass provider for supervisor training. This reflects Provisional Psychologist Hub’s established leadership in supervision, training, and workforce development.

The Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship supports provisional psychologists undertaking between 17 and 29 hours of psychological practice per week, with a focus on improving access to structured supervision and strengthening pathways to general registration across a range of practice settings.

The Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship provides structured, high-quality supervision, professional development, and practical supports designed to exceed minimum internship requirements and enhance successful progression through the 5+1 pathway.

Provisional Psychologist Hub Director, Susie Upton, said:

“When we started Provisional Psychologist Hub, we wanted to make sure no one felt lost in the internship process. It needed to be accessible, high-quality, and genuinely simple to navigate. This program reflects that intention — giving provisional psychologists real structure, strong supervision, and a clear pathway to registration, while also supporting employers under workforce pressure and navigating the cost of supervising interns. Reducing financial strain and improving access has been central to how this program has been designed.”

Successful recipients of the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship will receive a Gold Membership with Provisional Psychologist Hub, including:

  • Up to 95 hours of individual supervision
  • Up to 13 hours of group supervision
  • Primary and secondary supervisors
  • National Psychology Exam training
  • Professional development resources and workshops
  • Access to psychometric assessment tools, including the Pearson Clinical Assessment Digital Assessment Library for Provisional Psychologists, featuring over $8,000 worth of stimulus materials and manuals, along with 18 months of NovoPsych Pro access courtesy of the generosity of NovoPsych — empowering the next generation of Provisional Psychologists.

Supervision through the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship will be delivered at 1.5 hours per week across 48 weeks per year for up to 18 months, or until general registration is achieved.

Eligibility criteria for the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship

Applicants must:

  • Be undertaking a 5+1 internship
  • Hold current provisional psychologist registration
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Undertake 17–29 hours of psychological practice per week

Priority consideration for the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship may be given to applicants based in regional and rural communities, workforce shortage areas, or those working with priority population groups.

In addition, employers located in MMM3–7 regions with newly commencing interns may be eligible for supplementary support funding linked to successful Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship applicants.

Provisional Psychologist Hub leadership representative, Leza Sullivan, said:

“I’ve always believed the internship year is one of the most defining and vulnerable stages in a psychologist’s journey. At Provisional Psychologist Hub, our focus has been on removing unnecessary complexity and replacing it with clarity, strong supervision, and genuine support. The Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship responds to workforce pressures across the sector — including employer shortages, the financial cost of supervision, and broader cost-of-living pressures affecting both practitioners and communities. By reducing these barriers, we are helping create a more sustainable and accessible pathway into the profession.”

This initiative reflects Provisional Psychologist Hub’s commitment to strengthening the future psychology workforce through initiatives such as the Supporting Provisional Psychologists Scholarship, improving accessibility, quality, and sustainability within supervised training pathways across Australia.
