Job search

With a record number of Aspiring Provisional Psychologists looking for work now is a great time to look at how we search effectively to find the right role. We are going to start with some tips on key word search methods followed by some example key words and phrases to help you on your way.

Keyword Search Methods

Phrase Search - Phrase searching involves placing double quotation marks ("WORD 1 WORD 2") around two or more words to create a search term. This technique narrows the search to retrieve only those results in which the exact phrase appears.

Boolean searching (AND, OR, NOT) - When you put AND between two words it will search for jobs that contain both those words, when you put OR between two words it will search for jobs that contain one or both of those words.

For example, if I want to look for roles that have a counselling focus but I also want to make sure that they will be suitable for a provisional psychologist, I would type Counsellor and Provisional

If I wanted to look for either roles described as counsellor or provisional psychologist, I would likely get more results but they might be less focussed. I would type "Provisional Psychologist" OR Counsellor

When you put NOT between two words, it will search for roles that contain the first word but must exclude the second from that role.

For example, if I want to search for provisional psychologist roles but I would prefer not to look for rehabilitation consultancy roles.

With so many jobs online now, it's important to find ways to make your search focussed without excluding important roles. I would type, "Provisional Psychologist" NOT Rehabilitation
